Mandy’s professional and academic background includes work in education and urban planning and reflects special interests in social justice, place-based education, and the role of technology in effecting social change.

Mandy brings experience in schools, city planning, and technology to her work at the Center for Cities + Schools. For most of the last decade, Mandy has worked as an educator at the middle and high school levels, teaching English and history at urban and suburban public schools in California, Massachusetts, and Hawai'i. Additionally, Mandy has worked in school planning and design and has served on her local planning board. In her previous roles as Y-PLAN NYC Program Manager and Technology Specialist, Mandy led Y-PLAN NYC through its expansion from 4 to 15 schools and used her experience as a software engineer and database developer to improve Y-PLAN’s dig-tech presence. As the Y-PLAN Program Director, Mandy guided the research design and implementation of the national initiative, focused on two large regions: San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. Now in her role as the Center's Assistant Director, Mandy oversees Y-PLAN program and research initiatives, partnerships, and other projects.
