B.A. Urban Studies, UC Berkeley
Myrna Ortiz was born in Mexico and migrated with her family to the U.S. when she was three years old. She grew up hearing about cars and transportation from her father, who has a career as an auto transmission mechanic; and learning about the world from her mother, who loved to read and learn of lands far away. Myrna will be graduating with a B.A. degree in Urban Studies from UC Berkeley in December 2016. Myrna has had over nine years of experience working with young people in community organizing, academic tutoring, college application process, and professional development, with the underlying purpose of building new leadership around the issues of immigration, access to higher education, and housing justice. "Y-PLAN brings together youth and city planners. It's practically my dream come true. Having the authentic client opens the boardroom and city hall doors to young people and their families."
