- . The UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau has selected the Y-PLAN to be honored at the annual event recognizing the best community collaborative programs on campus!
- This is a unique initiative led by the Dean of the Graduate School of Education David Pearson, the Dean College of Environmental Design Harrison Fraker and Center Director Deborah McKoy. Funding from the Berkeley Futures Grant will allow the new Center for Cities and Schools to bring faculty together from the departments of City and Regional Planning, Environmental and Landscape Design, and Architecture located at the College of Environmental Design, together with faculty from the Graduate School of Education as well as other departments such as Public Policy, Public Health and the Haas School of Business to collaborate on research, policy, and publications.
- CC&S’s specific efforts include:
- Hold a new symposium series at UC Berkeley in 2005 – 2006 to bring together national leaders seeking to create a shared vision about the research questions and focus areas for future health of cities and public schools.
- Begin the formation of two new fields of study in both CED and GSE allowing planning and design students to specialize in education and education students to develop a specialty in planning and/or design. This will include connecting CED graduate students with GSE graduate students (including those in the Principals Leadership Institute and the Superintendent’s program) through the above mentioned symposium, creation of a future cross-listed course, and providing the Center as a forum to encourage collaborative research projects.
- Long time supporter and friend, Senior Program Officer Rhonnel Sotelo, joined the Advisory Board this May to help guide the Center’s mission and future direction.
