Another Successful Y-PLAN Training in Sacramento!

ByY-PLAN Team October 21, 2016April 20, 2026

On September 20th, 2016, the Sacramento Y-PLAN team came together to train new teachers to implement Y-PLAN in their classrooms. The training was hosted at Serna Center, the Sacramento City Unified School District headquarters. Teachers were introduced to the Y-PLAN learning and teaching strategy and participated on a Mini Y-PLAN that asked them to study the design of Serna Center and how that impacts the health of the building users, meaning SCUSD staff. Teachers also had time to work with their fellow teachers and begin planning the implementation of Fall Mini Y-PLAN Projects as well as ideas for Spring projects they would like to facilitate.

(Above) Kirin Kumar from WALKSacramento shares with teachers during the training, a letter this client organization wrote to students as a response to their work and proposals from the Spring semester. The letter highlighted the impact the students and their work had not only on the community but also on WALK Sacramento and how they conduct their community outreach now after having worked with young people.
