Teacher salaries have been stagnant for decades, while inflation and housing ever increases, leading to a widespread teacher shortage. Directors of the urban teaching program at Miami University in Ohio work to make it easier for students to pursue teaching careers by encouraging districts to build, subsidize, or find housing for teachers. California is at the forefront of such efforts, with its school districts owning 75,000 acres of land in the state.
