Y-PLAN Scholars Turn Story into Policy

ByY-PLAN Team January 18, 2023April 2, 2025

Y-PLAN Student Scholars in Oakland, Sacramento, and San Rafael shared their recommendations for radical change in our cities at public events and in the news last year:

  • California CDC Homelessness Education Technical Assistance Center (HETAC) Regional and Statewide Webinars
  • National Institute of Educational Leadership’s Virtual Youth Town Hall: How Adults Can Help Address Challenges in the New School Year
  • Grantmakers for Education National Conference in Austin, Texas
  • Marin Independent Journal Op-ed reflecting on the impact of Y-PLAN San Rafael 2019-2022 work
Stuart Foundation invited OUSD students, teacher Mallory Logan, and CC+S Director Dr. Deborah McKoy to share unhoused student research at the 2022 Grantmakers for Education National Conference in Austin, Texas.

We are incredibly proud of our Y-PLAN Student Scholars and look forward to finding new platforms for students to share their ideas and lived experience directly with policymakers. Check out the Y-PLAN Project StoryMaps to see more of Y-PLAN in action, like our Spring 2022 project on pedestrian safety in San José.
