We’re hiring a California Program Manager!
California Program Manager, Center for Cities + Schools at UC Berkeley
CC+S is excited to announce that we are looking to expand our team. The California Program Manager will work on a variety of policy projects that intersect with public K-12 education, infrastructure equity, housing affordability, and climate resiliency. This is a tremendous opportunity to work in a university setting while also collaborating closely with a variety of our partners, including nonprofits, local government leaders, state agencies, and local communities. This position will work closely with senior researchers and project staff at CC+S.
The position’s primary role will be to coordinate and lead our field training and policy research work on affordable workforce housing in California’s public K-12 education sector. Many school districts are exploring building affordable housing for teachers and other staff. CC+S is a leader in exploring this issue and has an ongoing partnership with UCLA, local school districts, and the California School Boards Association to provide research, policy evaluation, and training. Successful candidates would ideally have some affordable housing experience/knowledge, but it is not essential. Experience in related policy areas, experience working with public school district leadership (board members, superintendents, etc), and/or experience providing technical assistance/training to public/civic leaders is also a desired skill set.
The position’s secondary role will be providing leadership support to CC+S’s research team activities focused on public school facility capital infrastructure funding, climate resilience of schools, and resource equity for schools. Examples of work on these issues can be seen on our website. We’ll be expanding these efforts over the next few years. Successful candidates will ideally have some experience in one or more of these policy areas, but this is not essential. Experience in related/intersecting policy areas, especially experience that includes policy analysis and/or policy writing, is highly desired.
Overall, we’re looking for someone who has a strong interest in public education issues, but who also is interested and/or has some experience with affordable housing (e.g., state policies and the planning, finance, design, and/or construction). Given the interdisciplinary nature of our work, we are open to a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Experience with quantitative data analysis and mapping (eg ArcGIS) is also a plus.
We are looking for a passionate and highly-motivated applied policy professional to join our interdisciplinary, values-driven, and collaborative team. The California Policy Program Manager will work closely with CC+S executive leadership to advance analysis, partnerships, and communications for the Center’s work on California public policy. This is a new position at CC+S with substantial program responsibilities and room for creative growth in new applied policy areas.
Experience working in public education policy and/or on issues of affordable housing, public policy, public school facilities, land use, climate policy, and/or related field(s). Advanced degree in education policy, urban planning, land use, development finance, or related field or equivalent experience desired.
This is a regular, full-time position. This position is based in Berkeley, but can be, in part, located remotely (within California). Salary range is set by UC Berkeley and in line with an early to mid career professional. Position includes full UC Berkeley benefits. This is a minimum two-year position with the possibility of renewal.
